Customers often ask us about the difference between DI-NOC™ and wood veneers. Well, there are different grades of veneers – architectural and commodity.
Architectural grade veneers can range anywhere from $60.00 per square foot installed for oak to $110.00 per square foot installed for an exotic wood. Substrates are usually MDF board and the edges are banded. When used as wall paneling, the backs typically need to be balanced to prevent warping. Most likely there will be little variation in the pattern (color and grain) from piece to piece as great care is given to the manufacturing process.
Commodity grade veneers, while far less expensive than architectural grade veneers, have their limitations. Although similar in price to DI-NOC™, these veneers may experience significant variation in appearance (color and grain). This variation may be noticed in a wall panel system application. On average four to five pieces of 4’ X 8’ panels can be derived from one log – not enough for a medium to large wall application.
DI-NOC™ can be applied to most any non-porous surface, including MDF board, can be thermoformed, and can be installed for a fraction of the price – typically for $15.00 per square foot. And with over 500 patterns, there is sure to be a finish to suit the end-user’s needs without the appearance variation associated with veneers!
